1:10 — 2:10 p.m. Addressing Health Literacy in At-Risk Populations: Opportunities for Assessment and Intervention

Objectives: At the end of this program, participants should be able to:
Define health literacy both in terms of personal and organizational health literacy, and develop an understanding of contemporary models of health literacy.
Recognize the prevalence and impact of low health literacy on patients, providers, and healthcare systems, particularly in the context of HIV/AIDS and among West Virginians.
Discuss both immediate and long-term means of addressing health literacy and implementing appropriate interventions to improve patient health and outcomes.
