Course Description

This beginning level course will allow individuals new to supervision to become familiar with the purpose and process of clinical supervision. This 6-hour training meets the training requirements set by the WV Board of Social Work for Clinical Social Workers to be qualified to provide clinical supervision. 

Objectives

Participants will:

  • Appreciate the importance of supervision in mentoring new practitioners
  • Compare and contrast the various models of supervision
  • Differentiate between supervision, consultation and therapy
  • Understand the regulations of the West Virginia Board of Social Work Examiners regarding licensure and supervision
  • Identify the qualities and skills of the supervisor that promote effective supervision
  • Identify the learning style of the supervisee
  • Understand the competencies underlying clinical supervision
  • Review the ethical and legal considerations involved in supervision
